To enroll in a PADI Open Water Diver course you must be 10 years old or older, be comfortable in the water and have minimal swimming skills.

My favorite experience of my open water certification course was my dive instructor, Maria! I don’t think I could have done it without her! She was so patient, kind, and taught me everything I needed to know to keep myself save underwater and to enjoy the dive! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I was hesitant to get my certification because I did not think I could do it, but anyone can do it! You will never regret going underwater and experiencing a whole new world! Thank you so much to Maria, Phil, and the rest of the staff for giving me one of the best times of my life! Can’t wait to come back!:)

My girlfriend and I did the Open Water Scuba Diving course with Scuba Dive Costa Rica, and it was an absolute pleasure. Phil (the owner) was easy to communicate with, responded quickly and was very accommodating towards our every need. Our instructor, Tony, did everything in his power to make us feel safe and taken care of, and he was a great teacher. All in all I would wholeheartedly recommend Scuba Dive Costa Rica for your scuba diving adventures.

Great place to get PADI certified or dive for fun. Extremely professional group of instructors, especially Risky (ironic name), Meli, & Earnst. Excellent atmosphere for training, always safe.
Dives were incredible. My wife who is an experienced diver came along with us, did a refresher course and had a great time. The management is super responsive and easy to work with. I would recommend this experience 100%.
Saw sea turtles, sharks (friendly), octopi, manta/devil/eagle rays, and best of all we could hear whales singing the entire second day of diving. Visibility was ~30 ft / 10 m In January. Based on what we saw and heard, this was the best dive spot in the area.

My husband talked me into a "discovery dive" when we were in Potrero in February. I've always been hesitant to do scuba diving, finding snorkeling to be plenty of an "edge" for me. Well, we got done training in the pool with Risky and then diving with Ernst the next day and I was sold. We flew back to Montana and talked our three kids into coming back to Potrero and certifying the whole family! The e-learning was fine, though time consuming, but Risky was amazing with our teenagers in the pool and on the open water. Our 13 year old has actually declared she wants to bring Risky with to guide us wherever we dive next. I cannot say enough good things about ConnectOcean and their team. After two days of finishing our certification up we signed up for one more dive on our last day in CR and Alfredo, who had been helping us all week long led us on two more amazing dives. Thank you, thank you to the whole team.

We came to Scuba Dive Costa Rica as a recert and a first time certification diver; and it was the best experience I've had. The dive shop has well-maintained gear, the people are great fun, and the diving was just awesome (my log book is missing most of the fish we saw simply so that I could get the highlights).
Our instructors were Risky, on loan from One Love Ocean Divers, and Ian, a divemaster-in-training. Both were professional, patient, and most importantly, fun people to be around. Risky, our primary instructor, was very knowledgeable and took great pains to ensure that we a) learned everything necessary for certification, b) were comfortable with anything (skills) that we found apprehensive, and c) saw a lot of fish (that man knows the dive spots on the Pacific Coast like the back of his hand). And Ian was a fun, experienced diving friend to hang out with while on the boat, in the water, or even on the shore.
I highly recommend diving with Scuba Dive Costa Rica (or One Love Ocean Divers). Truly wonderful experience.
